How to Adjust The Volume In Windows XP - Example 1

When your computer has speakers, it is very important to be able to adjust the volume within Windows XP. This is sometimes the only way to adjust the volume if your speakers do not have a volume knob or if your computer does not have buttons on the keyboard to adjust the volume. Read the following example to see how to raise or lower the volume on your computer through Windows XP.

Things You'll Need:

  • Your Computer
  • The Windows XP Operating System.
  • Speakers
  1. Step 1
    Single left click on the 'Show hidden icons' button.

    If it is visible, single left click on the ‘Show hidden icons’ button, which is usually located near the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

  2. Step 2
    Single left click on the 'Volume' icon.

  3. Step 3
    Single left click and hold down on the slider to raise or lower the volume.

As you are holding down on the left mouse button, drag the slider up to raise the volume or drag the slider down to lower the volume. Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure your speakers are on if they have their own power button. If the speakers are off, you will not hear any sound no matter how high you move the volume slider.
  • If your speakers have their own volume knob, make sure the volume is set about midway. If the volume knob on the speakers is set all the way down, you will not hear any sound no matter how high you move the volume slider.
  • Make sure the 'Mute' check box is not checked in the 'Volume' dialog box. If the 'Mute' check box is checked, you will not hear any sound no matter how high you move the volume slider.
