1
Get out your check book and black or blue ink pen. Make sure it's not an erasable ink pen. Don't fill out your check with pencil.
-
2
Get out the bill you need to write the check for.
-
-
3
Write down the current date on the upper right hand side of the check where it says date.
-
4
Look at the bill. Find out who it is to be paid to. On the to line of the check fill in the exact name that bill is to be paid to.
-
5
Fill in the numerical amount next to the name on the check. You should use numbers in this little box. Don't put the dollar sign. Make sure to put the decimal and two zeros if it is an even amount.
-
6
On the next line write out the numerals in words and then put the cents over 100. Draw a straight line to fill up the rest of this area if your long hand of the numeral doesn't fill it up.
-
7
In the lower left corner of the check where it says memo, put the account number of the bill you are paying.
-
8
On the right bottom, sign your check as your name is printed on it and how you signed your account paperwork when you opened up your checking account.
