Keeping fleas off your dogs prevents many hassles with fleas. Your dog won't be scratching non-stop, your guests won't have to worry about transferring the infestation to their home, and you can prevent having fleas in your own home. Here are a few tips on how to help keep your dog flea free.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • garlic cloves
  • powdered yeast
  • salt
  • herbs
  1. Step 1

Add 2 cloves of garlic (1 clove if chihuahua sized dog) to your dog's dog food. The garlic will linger on the dog and its breath and should naturally be a repellent. This can be done daily. (Check with vet to make sure garlic is safe for your pet, it can be harmful to some dogs)

  2. Step 2

Add 2 teaspoons of powder yeast to your dog's dog food, which can be done daily.

  3. Step 3

When you give your dog a bath, add a tablespoon of salt to the bath. This is harmful to the fleas and can kill them.

  4. Step 4

Lay dried bracken ferns near and under where your pet sleeps. Try planting strong scented herbs such as peppermint, citronella, or wormwood around where the dog sleeps/lives. If you want them on the ground indoors, you might prefer some that smell better. Others you could try: basil, fennel, tansy, or rue.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check with your vet about what's healthy for your dog, such as garlic, which might be harmful to your pet (though not usually).
