Ben's Chili Bowl is a Washington DC landmark. Enjoy their spicy chili dogs just like famous patrons Barack Obama and Bill Cosby do. Here's the inside scoop on how to get there and what to order.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hearty Appetite
  • Cash
  1. Step 1

Catch the Metro. Take the Green line to the U Street/African American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo stop. When you get there, exit towards 13th Street and go up the escalators. Ben's Chili Bowl is directly across U street.

  2. Step 2

Get ready to order. If you have less than 6 people in your party, place your order at the counter. If you have 6 or more people, go to the back room for a table.

  3. Step 3

Order your food. Most people order the Ben's Famous All Meat Chili Dog or the Ben's Original Chili Half Smoke (Bill Cosby's favorite), which is a smoked sausage in a bun covered with chili. Other favorites are chili burgers, veggie burgers, jumbo beef or turkey dogs, tuna sandwiches, and more.

  4. Step 4

Order your sides. Side orders include french fries, chili fries, cheese fries, chili-cheese fries (the works), potato salad, cole slaw, cakes, and more.

  5. Step 5

Order your drinks. Available beverages include Coke, Diet Coke, Root Beer, Sprite, Raspberry Iced Tea, Fanta Orange, Fruit Punch, Lemonade, Grape, Homemade Iced Tea, Crytal Light, and Thick Creamy Milk Shakes in Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawbery, Cherry Banana, Pineapple, and Pina Colada.

  6. Step 6

While you're waiting for your order to arrive, sit back and enjoy the atmosphere. Ben's is a great place to people watch.

  7. Step 7

    Enjoy every bite!
