Feeling like some Oriental food tonight? Try this easy Sesame Chicken Satay dish. So easy and quick to make, it is guaranteed to become a family favorite.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1-2 pounds chicken breast cut on the bias into 25 pieces
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup rice wine vinegar
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/8 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 of a 1/3 cup of sugar
  • sesame oil, to your taste
  • 1 inch knob of fresh ginger, grated or 1/4 tsp of ground ginger
  • Sesame seeds
  • Fresh cilantro (optional)
  • Blender or food processor
  • Baking sheet
  • Foil
  • Skewers (optional)
  • 2 bowls
  • Pastry/basting brush
  1. Step 1

Preheat over to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. Step 2

Line your baking dish with your foil. Set aside.

  3. Step 3

In your blender or food processor, mix together the peanut butter, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, oil, sugar ginger and sesame oil. Pour out only a little at a time for the sesame oil. It can be very strong.

  4. Step 4

Once you have your sauce mixed, empty 1/2 into a clean bowl and set aside.

  5. Step 5

Place the chicken in the other bowl and pour the sauce over them. Mix the sauce and chicken together until all the chicken pieces are covered.

  6. Step 6

Take your baking dish and set the chicken pieces onto it. You will need to keep readjusting your pieces to fit it onto the sheet. Don't worry about the sauce coming off.

  7. Step 7

Once all your chicken pieces are on the baking dish, place it in the oven for 30 minutes.

  8. Step 8

At the 15 minute mark, go ahead and take the sauce you set aside, and brush some sauce onto the top of the chicken. Rotate the baking sheet at this point. Save the rest of the sauce for dipping when you are ready to eat.

  9. Step 9

Once your chicken is cooked, take it out of the oven. Take your sesame seeds and sprinkle it onto the chicken right away. If you wait until the chicken cools, the sesame seeds will not stick, so work fast.

  10. Step 10

If you are threading the satay onto skewers, now would be the time to do it. Garnish with cilantro and serve.

Tips & Warnings
  • Rice wine vinegar is not the same as white vinegar or apple cider vinegar. You cannot substitute these for the rice wine vinegar.
  • You can get rice wine vinegar from your local grocery store in the exotic foods section.
  • The best place to get rice wine vinegar is from an oriental store. They have more of a selection. I use Datu Puti.
  • Serve with rice or noodles.
