    Chicken soup:
Mom was right about eating chicken soap when you're sick. Add a little freshly minced garlic to your soup and just a pinch of cayenne pepper before it's served. Garlic is a natural antibiotic and antiviral that is at it's strongest when it's fresh.

  3. Step 3

    Onion:
for bad coughs just slice up an onion and pour some honey over the top. Let it sit overnight and in the morning you can eat the honey and or onion. Onions have strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

  4. Step 4

    Neti Pot:
Use a neti pot to help with your congestion and stuffy nose. The salt water solution will also help to kill germs. To help prevent re-infection be sure to thoroughly clean the neti pot between uses. You can either wash it by hand or put it in the dishwasher. Just make sure that it's dishwasher safe before you do so.

  5. Step 5

    Fluids & Rest:
Drink plenty of fluids, take your vitamin c and get a lot of rest. This is one time when you need to baby yourself a little. Otherwise it could get worse.

Tips & Warnings
  • During the civil war when antibiotics were unavailable doctors would put fresh garlic on the soldiers wounds to help them heal.
