Just started playing baseball? Trying to get better at throwing? Coaching young players? Then this article can help you figure out/teach how to throw accurately. It can be as easy as 1,2,3!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • a baseball
  • a glove
  1. Step 1

The 4-seam grip is the best and most accurate grip to use when throwing the ball in the field. To make sure that when you pull the ball out of the glove you are in the 4-seam grip, you should practice throwing the ball up, catching it, and bring it out of the glove in the 4-seam grip.

Get into your throwing position like you're going to throw the ball. Make sure you have the 4-seam grip. Your should be facing towards the person you're throwing to with the front of your shoulders pointing at them. When you take your step, keep your feet pointed at the person you're throwing to. You should take your step with the foot opposite your throwing arm (left foot for people right handed, right foot for people left handed). Finally you should follow through.

  3. Step 3

Practice throwing the ball with the 4-seam grip with a friend. The more you throw, the more powerful your throws will be. But, I would recommend working on accuracy and then slowly stepping up your speed.

Tips & Warnings
  • When throwing with a partner, start off at a small distance, and then slowly make the distance bigger.
  • Your step doesn't have to be big, keep it pretty short or you will go of balance.
  • If you trying throwing too fast, too soon, you could (and probably will) injure your arm.
  • Baseballs can hurt. When you are throwing, make sure your partner is watching and that there are no people or animals near you.
