1
Dig a hole deep enough to fit your weigela roots, about 12-inches wider than the diameter of it's current planter. This will ensure that a lot of loose dirt surrounds the base and has ample room to begin spreading.
-
2
Remove the weigela from the planter and loosen the dirt around the base of its roots, kneading it with your hands. Place the shrub in to the center of the hole. Adjust the plant's height as needed by adding or removing soil. Position the weigela upright, with the top of the roots just beneath the top of the ground.

3
Fill in the sides with potting soil or good garden dirt, packing the soil firmly around your weigela and mound it slightly up to the base of the stem. Water immediately after planting, adding soil as needed if the water settles around the plant. You weigela should not dry out, so water as needed.

4
After it blooms in May and early June, prune your pink poppet weigela and it will bloom again in the late summer. The blooms may be lighter the second time around.
-
5
Plant additional weigelas or other trees and shrubs at least three feet from your pink poppet to give it enough room for growth. These colorful shrubs make beautiful borders and, if cared for properly, can live up to 30 years.
