How to Submit Headshots
Headshots are the calling card of a professional actor. They can make all the difference when auditioning for a part. Casting directors rely on a standout headshot to help them remember you. Submitting a headshot informally, however, can sometimes diminish your chances of getting a part. Improve your chances by submitting headshots in a professional manner.

1
Check to make sure your headshot is properly composed. Sometimes it only takes one little detail to lose a job or opportunity. Your headshot should be from the shoulders up, current, and have your resume and contact information on the back. The size of paper should be 8 by 10 and the paper should be matte, not glossy. These are all basic things a casting director needs to take the next step in the selection process.

2
Call the agency you are submitting your head shot to. This step is very important as unsolicited headshots often end up in the trash. Sending a headshot to a specific person who is expecting it will maximize your chances.

3
Present your headshot personally on auditions or upon arriving at a job. Ask first if you may present it. Sometimes the director and casting director may have a preference on how they prefer to receive headshots.
-
4
Accompany your headshots with a cover letter, especially when submitting digitally via email. Casting directors could be baffled by an unsolicited email containing a picture, resume and no explanation.

Tips & Warnings
Do not mass mail headshots if you have been rejected by the agency. This is the best way to be seen as unprofessional and be tossed aside with no regard to your previous acting chops or qualifications.
