Use Songbird

Sonbird is a free audio playing program available for computers running the Windows and Linux operating systems. Notable for not using a lot of system resources (a problem that plagues Apple's iTunes software) and for being highly customizable, Songbird has burst onto the scene and presented itself as a viable alternative to a lot of other similar programs out.

Add music to your Songbird library. Select "Add File" from the "File" drop down menu at the top of the main Songbird program window. This will allow you to search your computer for any music files on your computer, which will in turn add them to your library for later use.

Play music. Playing music in Songbird is simple---once a song is in your library, double click on it to get it to play over your computer's speakers.

Go online. Songbird has a built in web browser, which makes it ideal for finding similar artists to the ones you're listening to, finding more information about certain songs, or anything else you'd want to do quickly and easily. The Songbird web browser can be accessed at any time by clicking on the "Web" tab above your library in the main Songbird window.

Get add-ons. Songbird was essentially developed as the "Firefox of Media Software," which means that you can customize it in hundreds of different ways. By downloading add-ons (which can be accessed by selecting "Add-Ons" from the "Tools" drop down menu at the top of the screen), you can add Last.FM or Pandora compatibility, you can sync your iPod or have Songbird check for concerts in your area by the bands in your library.
