How to Configure a D Link Modem

After you have subscribed to broadband service with your Internet service provider, they will send you a modem. There are many modem types on the market, and one of the popular types is the Dlink. Once you receive your modem, unless it is pre-configured, you will need to configure it to successfully connect to broadband Internet service.

Things You'll Need

• Dlink Modem
• Ethernet cable
• Telephone cable
• DSL filter

Instructions

1. Power on your computer. Connect your Dlink modem to your computer, using the Ethernet cable provided. One end of the Ethernet cable should go into the modem, the other end of the cable should go into the Ethernet port of your computer.

2. Connect your telephone cord from a telephone jack to the data port on your computer. Ensure that a DSL filter is placed on the telephone jack to decrease line noise and enhance connectivity.

3. Open your computer's "Control Panel." Proceed to your "Network Connection" settings. The wording may vary, depending upon which operating system you are using.

4. Right click on "Local Area Connection." Highlight "TCP/IP" and click "Properties." Select the option to "Obtain IP address Automatically" if the option is not already selected. Select the option to "Obtain DNS Address Automatically." Click "OK."

5. Open your Internet browser. Type the IP address for the modem, 192.168.0.1, into your address bar. Press "Enter" on your keyboard. If you are prompted for a username and password, you can enter the default Dlink username of "Admin" and the default password "Admin."

6. Select "Account Configuration." Fill out all of the form fields in the account configuration window. Press "OK" to close out and save your work. Your modem configuration is now complete.
