Active X controls, also known as plug-ins or add-ons, are mini-programs you may install to view a website properly or help your browser complete special tasks. Adobe Active X helps Flash Player run in Internet Explorer or Firefox.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Windows OS
  • Firefox, Internet Explorer, or other browsers that support IE ActiveX controls and plug-ins
  1. Step 1

Check to see whether you have Flash Player installed by visiting the Adobe Flash Player website. Download and install Flash Player if you do not already have it.

  2. Step 2

Right-click the yellow Information Bar that drops down. It asks you if you want to install an Active X Control.

  3. Step 3

Select "What's the Risk?" or "More Information" if you would like to learn more about Active X Controls before installing.

  4. Step 4

Click "Install Active X Control" when you're ready.

  5. Step 5

Click the Install button when the confirmation window pops up. The Adobe Active X Control will now be installed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some websites require their own Active X Control downloads to view them properly or run programs. The yellow Information Bar will always appear before so you may choose whether or not to install.
  • Not all Active X Controls are safe. They can be used by certain websites for malicious attacks. Never install any add-on, including Active X Controls, from a website you do not trust. When in doubt, Google the website or control name to see if it is trustworthy.
