How to Draw a Heart in Paint

Even with a computer drawing program, a perfect symmetrical heart can be a difficult figure to draw. Though many drawing programs include tools that can quickly and automatically draw various simple shapes, the heart is rarely one of them. Often, it is up to the user to come up with a way to draw hearts using the tools provided. However, using the proper steps, you can draw a perfect heart, using the most basic of common drawing programs available: MS Paint.

Instructions

    • 1

Select the ellipse (oval) tool, and use it to draw a circle by holding down the shift key as you draw. Make the ellipse as big or as small as you want, but leave room on one side and underneath for the rest of the drawing.

    • 2

Use the selection tool to select the ellipse, keeping the edges of the selection as close to the edges as possible. Copy the circle and paste the copy into the document. While the copy remains selected, drag it beside the original. The two should be at exactly the same level vertically and the right edge of the left-hand ellipse should be touching the left edge of the right-hand ellipse. Deselect the copy.

    • 3

Use the line tool to draw a straight, vertical line from the point where the two shapes touch, down to the place you want the tip of the heart to be. This can be as high or low as you want (and may require some trial and error), but generally the bigger the shapes you used, the further down this line should extend. Hold down the shift key while drawing the line to ensure that it's perfectly vertical.

    • 4

Draw a straight horizontal line with the line tool, this time from the bottom-left edge of the left-hand shape (roughly halfway along the curve between the bottom and the left edges) to the bottom-right edge of the right-hand shape. Again, hold down the shift key to make sure the line does not end up at an angle.

    • 5

Draw a line connecting the left end of the horizontal line with the bottom end of the vertical line, and another line connecting the right end of the horizontal line to it. (Do not hold down the shift key for these lines.)

    • 6

Use the eraser tool to erase all the inside lines of the heart. You may need to use the magnifying glass tool and the smallest size eraser tool to do this without erasing any necessary lines.
