Fix Your Hair in a Chignon
Fix Your Hair in a Chignon

A chignon is a sophisticated updo often worn at formal events like weddings and proms. The style is also popular among celebrities during special events like awards shows and red carpet appearances. A chignon is basically just a low bun with a twist, which is relatively simple to do. A basic version of the chignon can also be worn during casual workdays for a simple yet classy look.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Comb
  • Elastic
  • Bobby pins
  • Hairspray
  1. Step 1

Comb your hair to smooth it out and remove any tangles.

  2. Step 2

Part your hair in the middle or on the side, and tie your hair in a low ponytail with an elastic.

  3. Step 3

Split the ponytail into two pieces and twist them together---kind of like a braid that is missing the third piece of hair.

  4. Step 4

While keeping hold of the end of the twisted ponytail, wind the hair all the way around the elastic into a low bun. Secure with bobby pins.

  5. Step 5

Apply a light spritz of hair spray to hold the style.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do the chignon on slightly dirty hair to make it easier to secure the style. Clean hair can be extra slippery and hard to manage. Choose an elastic in a color that matches your hair so it will blend into the chignon.
