How to Change Caller ID Names

A caller ID name is the name that is displayed whenever a person calls your phone. It can be the caller's real name, a nickname, or some other word or phrase. The idea is that some kind of name will be easier to identify than a standard phone number. What many people don't realize is that at any point you can change someone's caller ID name to whatever you see fit. Use this article as a guide as you do just that.

Changing the display ID

1. Open your cell phone. From the list of options on your phone's main menu screen, select Contacts.

2. Select from your phone's list of contacts the name of the person whose caller ID you wish to change.

3. Press the button on your phone assigned to Edit. On some phones this requires selecting the name using the OK button and then pressing Edit, while on others you can simply press a button while the name is highlighted.

4. Erase the contact's name and use your keypad to type a new one in. This name is what is displayed whenever the person or business calls, so changing this will change their Caller ID.

5. Hit Save. This is extremely important. The changes you've just made will be no good if you don't save them. Press the Save button and the next time they call their new name will display.
