The mysterious white film that appears on combs is usually from a buildup of hair products, such as hairspray, gel, mousse or even conditioner. The best way to keep combs clean from white film is to clean them regularly, at least once a week, but more often if you use a lot of products.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shampoo or dish soap
  • Old toothbrush or hairbrush
  1. Step 1

Remove any hairs trapped in the comb by pulling them out with your hand, or by using another comb to pull them out.

  2. Step 2

Dampen the comb by placing it under running water.

  3. Step 3

Place a small dab of shampoo or dish soap on the comb. Shampoo will usually remove any dirt or product buildup, but heavy or greasy buildup can be removed easier with dish soap.

  4. Step 4

Dampen an old toothbrush under running water.

  5. Step 5

Scrub the comb with the old toothbrush, getting in between each tooth on the comb, as well as the crevices along the handle.

  6. Step 6

Rinse the comb thoroughly, removing all the soap.

  7. Step 7

Dry the comb on a clean towel.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wash your combs in the shower while bathing to save time.
  • Don't leave any soap on the comb, or it could show up as more white residue.
