How to Put on a Corset by Yourself

Corsets fasten closed in the front then tighten, by means of laces, in the back. There's no question that a corset is best put on with someone else's help, since the laces are always positioned directly behind you. But sometimes it's not always possible---or desirable---to have a helper. You can put on a corset by yourself, achieving the desired figure-sculpting effect, without the aid of another, if you have a little time and patience to practice the process. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Loosen the laces on the corset enough so that you can wrap it around your body comfortably.

    • 2

Wrap the corset around you---the laces go in back---and fasten the clasps on the front, working from top to bottom.

    • 3

Shift the corset as necessary to make sure it sits as comfortably as possible on your figure. There should be no places where it pinches you. Depending on the corset style, it may extend from almost anywhere mid-bust or lower to the upper hip. Center the waist of the corset over your own waist.

    • 4

Reach one arm around your back, hook your thumb or a finger into the first crossed pair of laces at the very top of the corset, and pull them tight. You may find it helpful to exhale forcefully as you do this.

    • 5

Tighten the next cross-pair of laces down, then the next, working your way down to the waist of the corset, where the pull loops are.

    • 6

Start over from the bottom of the corset, tightening one cross-pair of laces at a time until you reach the middle again.

    • 7

Pull on the pull loops at the back waist of the corset to even the laces out---they are connected to the rest of the laces. Repeat the tightening process, working from top to waist and then bottom to waist, if necessary.

    • 8

Tie the pull loops into a bow. This keeps the laces from loosening as you breathe or move.
