How to Play a Super Audio CD
Super Audio CD (SACD) is a CD format developed by Sony and Philips in 1999. It was designed to provide higher-quality audio than CDs, and to give the option of surround-sound playback. SACDs feature a higher sampling rate than traditional CDs as well as an increased frequency response. Although SACDs never became mainstream, many artists and record labels continue to release SACD albums.

1
Get the required player. To take advantage of the SACD's higher sampling rate, surround capabilities, and increased audio quality, a special player is required. Although most SACDs are playable by normal CD players, they will play the traditional CD layer and not the SACD layer.

2
Hook up the SACD player. Refer to the player's instruction manual, just remember to use the digital coaxial or HDMI output on the SACD player when connecting it to a stereo or surround sound receiver. If your SACD features surround sound, make sure your receiver and speakers are set up correctly to enable this.

Insert your SACD, push play and enjoy. SACDs sound significantly better and have a warmer, more natural sound than traditional CDs, so your listening pleasure will be greatly increased.

Tips & Warnings
Although most SACDs can be played on traditional CD players, not all can. Check the CD's label to ensure that the disc is CDDA-compliant. Because SACD technology never caught on with mainstream audio equipment, it is not readily available at most audio stores. Check online or at a high-end audio boutique to find the best selection of SACD-compatible players. The first two generations of Sony's Playstation 3 are SACD-compatible. Versions released after October 2007 do not have this feature.
