Hives are a skin infection that can be caused by stress, allergies, the sun, insect stings, medications, certain foods and chemicals. Hives appear as red, blotchy patches on the skin and are usually itchy. Sometimes hives can cause a burning sensation. You can get rid of hives with green tea.

If you have broken out in hives, make a cup of green tea for yourself. If you have a teapot, fill it with water and set it on the stove to heat it up. When the teapot whistles, you know that the water is ready to remove from the heat and add 5-10 bags of your favorite green tea. Allow it to steep for at least five minutes. Carefully remove the tea bags with tongs and throw them away. Pour yourself a cup of tea and drink. The green tea will help soothe your skin and get rid of the hives because it has an antihistamine (the active ingredient in some allergy medications) effect on the skin when you drink it.

Prevent future bouts with hives by drinking green tea daily. Make it a routine part of your day by having it with breakfast, lunch, dinner or along with an afternoon snack. Green tea not only has an antihistamine effect on the skin, but some powerful antioxidants for many other health benefits.

Draw yourself a warm bath. You will need two green tea bags per gallon of water. You will have to do a little math to find out how many gallons of water your bath tub can hold. Multiply the depth of your bathtub by the length by the width by 7.5. (This number is used because there are 7.5 gallons in a cubic foot.) Add the appropriate amount of green tea bags and enjoy your green tea bath to get rid of hives in this soothing way.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you would rather not do the math equation to find out how many gallons your bathtub holds, you can simply add 10 tea bags as most bathtubs hold an average of 50 gallons of water.
