How to Decorate a Church for a Baptism
For many religions, baptisms are a special, emotional and holy event, signifying a person or baby's new life as a member of the church or family of God. While the church should not be lavishly decorated as for a wedding, there are some ways you can decorate to make the baptism even more special. Often, baptisms are followed by receptions. If the reception is held at the church, the reception area should be decorated as well.

1
Place simple flower bouquets on the podium or on a table near the baptismal. Flowers signify new life, just like a baptism does.
-
2
Drape crepe paper across chairs or pews to reserve them for family members who would like to be able to see the baptism up close. Consider using purple and white, which are colors that traditionally signify the royalty of Christ and the priesthood of believers.

3
Set up a table with a cake on it celebrating the baptism. Even if you are not having a reception, the cake can be placed in the foyer for people to partake of as they leave. Add a pretty Bible next to the cake, perhaps as a gift for the person being baptized, and set up a guestbook as well.

4
Hang a banner across the entrance to the church. You can make one out of butcher paper. Write, "Congratulations (name)!" on it or some other type of blessing or praise statement.
-
5
Set up a storyboard featuring pictures from that person's life. This is especially poignant when an older person is being baptized. If it's a baby, a small display of newborn pictures plus the birth announcement works well.
