Win the Michael L Printz Award

The Michael L. Printz Award celebrates literary excellence in the category of young adult literature. Because only published works are eligible, many writers will fail to get a nomination for this prize.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Published, young adult novel
  1. Step 1

Find a publisher to distribute your young adult novel. A literary agent or entertainment manager may be able to help you achieve this goal.

  2. Step 2

Tell your publisher to designate your book as "Young Adult Literature" for ages 12 through 18 years. Books marketed to other ages are ineligible for this prize.

  3. Step 3

Ask a friend to read your book (optional) and nominate you for the Michael L. Printz Award. Publishers, authors and editors cannot nominate themselves. Someone on your behalf can complete the nomination form online at the Michael L. Printz Award website (see Resources).

  4. Step 4

Write other published young adult titles to improve your chances. Authors can be nominated for more than one title.
