How to Create Objectives for a Sales Position
Sales positions are performance-driven jobs, and the success of companies that employ salespeople relies heavily upon the personal motivations of their sales professionals. Therefore, when applying for a sales position, your resume objective should immediately portray you as a candidate who has either demonstrated sales abilities or a sales educational background that would enable you to flourish within the new position. A career objective may be the only part of the resume a sales manager even reads; therefore, it is best to grab her attention with a focused sales objective that shows what you can do for the company.
Instructions
-
-
1
Examine the prospective employer's stated employee qualifications.
-
2
Compose a list of your demonstrated strengths, experiences and abilities in your past sales professional positions. Include all salaried positions, freelance projects and internships.
-
-
3
Match the most compatible components of the prospective employer's list to your own personal qualification list.
-
4
Choose your strongest demonstrated quality from your past positions. If you don't have past measured successes, focus instead on your sales educational background and how it can benefit the company you to which you are applying.
-
5
Construct a concise career objective statement that makes your accomplishments stand out in a way that is slanted toward the company's goals. Be sure to include the posted job title and the name of the company in your statement. If you have a lot of experience, your sales position objective could read something like, "A Senior Account Executive position that utilizes my ten years of experience to expand ABC Company's client base." If you don't have experience to fall back on, tailor your objective to focus on skills that you have learned. You might then write, "A Junior Account Executive position that utilizes the prospect generation and closing presentation skills I studied at Any State University."

Tips & Warnings
Use a one-sentence objective whenever possible.
Don't begin your statement with the word "I" or use the word "want" in your objective. For example, in, "I want a senior sales position within the New Products Department," simply delete "I want."
