Step 1
First, stock up on a variety of dog food. Buy an inexpensive bag of dry food. Try to get a type with a variety of bits, some soft, some chewy. Any cheap brand will do!
-
Step 2
Next, buy some canned dog food. Again, buy the cheap stuff. Look for the unit price of the cans to decide which kind to buy. Sometimes the large cans are less expensive but sometimes they're not. So be careful when grabbing the cans.
-
Step 3
You may also want to buy one box of chewy dry food. This is the type of food that comes in individual bags. There are brand names but at discount stores you can usually find a cheaper store brand version. Buy a box of the least expensive brand.
-
Step 4
Now you want to pick up some cans of broth. Get the fat free broth if possible. Get some cans of chicken broth and beef broth. And like with the canned dog food, check the unit price! Many times the big cans are priced more per quart than the smaller cans.
-
Step 5
Once you have your dog food and your broth, head on over to the meat department. Pick up the cheapest bacon you can find. If bacon is too pricey for your wallet look for any inexpensive meat like bologna or even hot dogs. You only need one pack because you will use just a little per meal just to add meaty flavor. If your dog likes cheese pick up some cheap cheese too.
-
Step 6
When you get home from your dog food shopping spree it's time to spiff up the dry dog food. Grab any container with a cover and fill it about half way with dry food. Then add some broth. You want to add enough broth so that's it's level with the dog food. If you want to save a bit of money you can use half broth and half water. You can also use straight water but your dog will really appreciate a bit of broth. Now cover the container and put it in the fridge. It will soon be soft.
-
Step 7
Now you are ready to make your first meal! Grab one slice of bacon (half a slice for a small dog) and wrap it in a paper towel and cook it in the microwave for about one minute. Then cut the bacon into small pieces and put it in the dog dish. If you are using a hot dog or any other meat heat it up a bit so the juices can flow. Then add a bit of the dog food that has been soaking in the broth. Also add a bit of canned food and some of the chewy food. You can also throw in some hard dog food too so your dog has some crunch. And if you have cheese put in just a few pieces.
-
Step 8
Mix this all up and serve your dog! Soon your dog will know the smell of the bacon cooking (or the other meat) and he will come running! It only takes a little bit of meat and a nice variety of food to turn a boring meal into something a dog considers delicious. At least that's what my dogs tell me!
