Create a season pass on Tivo.
Create a season pass on Tivo.

Use the season pass feature to get the most out of your Tivo. Set it up and you'll never miss your favorite shows because Tivo is smart!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tivo
  • A Tivo Subscription
  1. Step 1

Hit the Tivo button on your Tivo remote. This will take you to Tivo Central. Use the arrow keys to move down to "Find Programs". Hit select.

  2. Step 2

Choose "Search by Title". Select "All Programs" or if you want, choose the genre of show you're trying to record. Type in the name of the program that you want to create a season pass for.

  3. Step 3
Search with Tivo to find your show and get a season pass.

Use the arrow keys to move the cursor to the right when you see the show pop up in the menu. Hit "select". Use the arrow keys to scroll down to "Get a Season Pass", then use your arrows to move the cursor to the right and select "options". This will allow you to customize your Tivo season pass.

  4. Step 4
Set up your Tivo recording options.
Set up your Tivo recording options.

Choose how long you want Tivo to keep your recorded show. If you want to make sure it doesn't get deleted before you have a chance to watch it choose "Keep Until I Delete". Otherwise choose keep until space needed. Tivo will only delete your shows if it needs more space to record the new shows on your To Do list.

  5. Step 5

Set the number of shows that you want Tivo to keep at a time. You can select 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 25 or all. You can also tell it to start recording (in minute increments) early or stop recording late. This is something you'll adjust over time if you see that your entire show isn't recorded (either it runs long or the network time is different than Tivo's time by a minute or so).

  6. Step 6

Go back to the top of the screen and select "Record episode with these options". Now hit the back button a few times until you get to the "Find Programs" screen. Scroll down to "Season Pass Manager" and select it.

  7. Step 7

Use this screen to reorder your season passes in order of importance to you. To move a particular show up or down, highlight it with your arrow keys then hit the right arrow key so that it highlights the arrows that are to the right of the show. Use your up and down arrows to move the show to it's desired ranking. When you're finished, hit the left arrow key and your changes will be saved. If you want to modify a particular show's season pass simply highlight it, hit "select", then click "Change recording options" and make the desired changes.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your show changes nights, Tivo automatically detects that. You don't have to remember when your show comes on, Tivo does that for you once you have set up a Tivo season pass.
  • Make sure your shows are in the order of importance to you. If 2 shows happen to run at the same time slot, it will record the higher priority show. If the shows overlap, it will clip the lower priority show so that it records all of the higher priority show.
  • If you keep too many programs where you have the option "Keep until I delete" your Tivo may stop recording because the disk space is full. Pay attention to any black bars that appear at the bottom of your Tivo screen - these alert you to issues with your Tivo.
