Things You'll Need:
- 16" pot
- Tomato Stakes
- Top soil
- Tomato plants or seeds
-
Step 1
This is the first step toward your relaxing fresh from the garden tomatoes. Take a 16" pot made from clay, wood, or plastic and make sure it has cracks or holes to allow the water to drain out the bottom.
-
Step 2
Next we get some topsoil that is made for growing vegetables. I get this from my local hardware store for $2 a bag. Most 16" pots take 2 bags. The nice thing is once you set this up, you just replant year after year no more dirt to buy.
-
Step 3
Now we need to plant our tomato plants. If you live in a warmer climate year around then seeds work great. Plant them approximately 1 inch deep in two opposite ends of the pot. If you live up in the northern climate like I do either start the seeds indoors a month before needing to plant them or buy seedlings from you greenhouse.
-
Step 4
Now that our seeds or plants are planted in the fresh topsoil we need to add tomato stakes for them to climb up. I purchased these from the my local hardware store. I purchase one that was triangular and about 4 feet tall and the tomato plants loved to climb up it.
-
Step 5
Now that this is done we just need to water daily and watch them sprout to life. Make sure you plants are in a sunny area as tomato plants love the sun!
