Choose a creative name creative name for your business. Run a fictitious name check in order to make sure that nobody else is already using the name you have chosen. File a Fictitious Name Statement. Your local business office will guide you through this process.

Go to your local county courthouse and obtain a business license.

Talk to your local school district to find what age group of students most needs tutors.

Determine what you want to be paid for your services and whether you will charge hourly, weekly or monthly. Decide if you will charge for travel time. Think about whether you want to charge for supplies too.

Prepare a contract that both you and your clients will be able to sign. Outline your expectations in regards to price, payment and schedule within this contract.

Put together a business plan stating who you will tutor, what subject you will tutor them in and where you will tutor them at.

Begin advertising. Place fliers on public bulletin boards. Tell parents about your new business. Introduce yourself to local teachers, counselors, administrators and coaches. Ask permission to put your resume in teachers' mailboxes. Advertise in your local newspaper.
