Measuring for encased replacement windows. As simple as it gets to accurately measure encasement's for windows.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Using your small flat pry bar gently loosen the inside trim of your window. This works best if you pry the entire piece off at one time by slowly working from bottom to top. If done properly the brads and the trim should come off together.

  2. Step 2

After removing the trim from the window to expose the encasement you simply measure the width and the height with your tape. This is your rough opening measurement for your new replacement window. *Always refer to width first and height second.

  3. Step 3

On the outside of the window measure the trim width and note the style. Take a picture if needed to remind yourself later when shopping for windows. *some would skip this but I like to buy a new window with as close to original in mind.

  4. Step 4

You can easily replace the trim you removed using the same nails and holes while you shop for windows. No tools needed just the palm of your hand should do it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Many Home and Garden Stores carry pre-hung encased windows in the most popular rough opening sizes.
  • Don't forget insulation and shims as part of your expenses when replacing windows.
