Step 1
CHECK ONLINE - Check with online websites that post current gas prices in your area. The information may not be accurate or no longer accurate but at least it gives you a starting point. Always gas up when you see a low price and do not wait until you are empty to fill your tank because you will then be at the mercy of the closest gas station which could be the most expensive in the area.
-
Step 2
GAS UP ON WEDNESDAY - Purchase gas on Tuesday or Wednesday of each week. Gas prices go up on the weekends, so never leave yourself in the position of needing gas on Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. If you must purchase gas on a more expensive day, only fill up to a half of tank, so that you can save more money by filling up during the week.
-
Step 3
FEE FREE - Check for fees when you are comparing gas prices. Paying cash is usually the cheapest. Unlike other businesses, gas stations charge for using your debit card, they do not consider it cash. The debit card fee may be up to one dollar at some gas stations. Credit is the most expensive way to pay for gas. Some generous gas stations charge the same price for all three forms of payment, but not many, they are hard to find.
-
Step 4
KEEP LOOKING - Find the lowest price in your neighborhood and then continually check for lower prices. A station that may be the cheapest this week may be more expensive next week.
You can find cheap gas prices if you research ahead of time and give yourself plenty of time to fill up.
