How to Write Birthday Invitationsthumbnail
Children's birthday parties require colorful invitations.

Children expect a fun party on their birthdays. Coordinating the party, however, can be stressful and overwhelming for parents. To have a successful party, you need to have the child's friends and family members present. And to get the people to the party locale, you need attention-getting birthday invitations.

Pick out the design of your invitations. You can go the traditional route and get some store-bought invitations. Or you can also find some free online printable invitations, or pay a fee for printable, ad-free and customizable invitations. If you're planning a young child's birthday, get creative and let her help decorate the invitations. Give her some crayons or paint, and let her do hand prints on the inside of the invitations or on the envelopes.

Order photo invitations as an alternative. You can select your favorite child photo, upload it to a photo service website and fill in all the details. Then you can order the photo invitations blank or fill in the details yourself when they come in the mail. You can also download birthday invitation templates and print them on different colored paper for a fun look.

Compose the information for the invitations. Include the date, time, location, duration of the party and a list of activities or dress code, if applicable. For example, if it is a swim party, you want to let people know to bring their swimsuits. If it is an outdoor party in the summertime, let them know so they dress accordingly. Also let people know if it a dress-up party, costume party or a themed party.

Provide gift ideas and size information if you think it's necessary. For example, if it is for a young child, provide ideas of characters he likes or things he likes to do. It is also a good idea to list the size of clothing and shoes in case someone would like to buy an outfit or summer flip-flops for the birthday star. Alternatively, you can simply note, "No gifts please."

Include an RSVP date and phone number, as well as your email address. This will give you a head count and help you to better prepare for food, drinks and goodie bags. If the party is at a location that may not be familiar to everyone, consider providing a small map printout. Be sure to include a cell phone number where you can be reached on the day of the party in case anyone gets lost.

Grab your address book and notepad and start addressing the invitations. You should mail out the invitations at least two and half weeks in advance.
