Things You'll Need:
- Pirate hats/eye patches/swords
- Pirate decorations and banners
- Pirate jokes
- Pirate trivia
- Pirate treasure chest filled with candy
-
Step 1
Mark September 19th on your office calendar as International Talk Like a Pirate Day
-
Step 2
Set aside a budget of how much you want to spend on food and/or decorations
-
Step 3
Send emails to your staff at least a month ahead of time to announce your plans for the day. This will allow them to plan their pirate costume for work.
-
Step 4
Plan to have a Pirate Costume Contest and award a prize for the most creative one!
-
Step 5
Go online and search for Pirate Jokes and Pirate Trivia so you can email them to the staff that morning or hand them out as they walk in.
-
Step 6
I usually have a Pirate Pot Luck to go with our day to save on funds. Ask your office baker to bake a pirate cake. Use blue frosting for the water, chocolate for the island and you can use lego pirate pieces for the accent - it is always a big hit!
-
Step 7
Hand out eye patches to everyone and pirate finger puppets. Many online party stores sell these at a reasonable price and you can get them in bulk.
-
Step 8
I ordered a vinyl banner to celebrate the day - I did not add the year to it so that I can reuse it every year. Banners run about 14 dollars from Shindigz or Oriental Trading.
-
Step 9
Set up a pirate chest filled with inexpensive candy for the staff so they can choose what they like.
-
Step 10
Ask everyone to speak to each other as pirates do - Hand out a list of common pirate phrases - Arrrrgh
-
Step 11
Have fun with it - remember you can save your decorations to re-use year after year!
