Go online and find remanufactured or returned toner cartridges. These can be as much as half off what regular toner cartrdiges cost. These are generally cartridges that were either returned by a customer after the box was opened or were for various reasons defective, repaired and tested to see that it worked properly. A few places that you can try to find remanufactured cartrdiges online are eBay.com and Overstock.com.

Step 2
Look for after market ink cartridges. These you can find both online and offline. These are generic cartridges made by someone other than the manufacturer, but meet the specifications of their counterparts.

Step 3
Check to see that using an aftermarket cartridge doesn't violate your warranty before purchasing. Make sure that this isn't the case otherwise you won't be able to get your printer repaired if it malfunctions.

on 10/21/2009 It's also important to note that, when finding retailers for your 3rd party or aftermarket cartridges, to find someone who offers a warranty and flexible return policy. It's hard to trust a company that doesn't stand behind their products. Remark Imaging (http://www.remarkimaging.com) backs all of their products with a 1-year warranty against cartridge failure or defect.
