MIDI is an industry standard protocol that enables electronic musical instruments such as digital keyboards and sequencers to communicate with each other. MIDI files don't contain actual audio data, but rather commands that let MIDI-capable devices re-create the music. Most cell phones cannot read MIDI files. Therefore, an MIDI file must first be converted to play as a ringtone.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Download and install MIDI Converter Studio. Once installation has completed, launch the program.

  2. Step 2

Click "Add Files" from the MIDI Converter Studio main menu. Browse to the folder and location of your MIDI file. Select the file that you want to convert to a ringtone, and click "Open." Once selecting the file, it will be added to the conversion list.

  3. Step 3

Click "Play" in the toolbar to preview the file. Under Output Format of the main window, select "MP3" from the drop-down list. Click "Setup" to adjust MP3 settings. Once settings have been adjusted, click "OK" to return to the main window once again. Under Output Folder, select a location to which you would like to save your converted files.

  4. Step 4

Click "Convert" from the main window. MIDI Converter Studio will process your file into MP3/Ringtone format and save the file to the location you specified in Step 3.

  5. Step 5

Locate your converted MP3 file, and upload it to your cell phone to play as a ringtone.

Tips & Warnings
  • The trial version of MIDI Converter Studio (30 days) will allow you to convert only 60 seconds of each file.
