How to Create a JPEG Picture Slideshow

Windows Movie Maker can be used to make a JPEG picture slideshow. The software is typically used to edit video footage, but you can import JPEG pictures, as well. The program is versatile enough that you can add audio or music to your slides if you wish or control the speed and transition effects.

      In Windows Movie Maker, select "Import Pictures" from the under "1. Capture Video" in the left menu. Import multiple pictures by holding down "CTRL" and selecting each JPEG image you want to import.

      Once the JPEG images are imported into the program, drag and drop each image to the storyboard at the bottom in the order you want the images to appear.

      Speed up or slow down the transitions between each image by selecting the transition box between the two images you want to change in the time-line then select "View Video Effects" in the left menu under "2. Edit Movie." Scroll through the effects listed and select either "Slow Down, Half" or "Speed Up Double." Check transitions by selecting "Play" in the main menu and scrolling down to "Play Clip." Each transition between images can be sped up or slowed down as many times as necessary.

      Select "File" in the top menu, and then select "Save Movie File." Choose where you want to save your slideshow.

      Enter a file name for your slideshow, and then press "Next." Make sure "Best Quality" is selected if you want to save your JPEG picture slideshow in the best quality possible. Select "Next" and the slideshow will begin to save.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add music to your slideshow by selecting "Import Audio or Music" under "1. Capture Video" in the left menu. Try using the various transitions and effects available under "2. Edit Movie" in the left bar menu with your slideshow. You can also add a "Title" or "Credits."
