How to Plant Bamboo in Pots
Planting bamboo in pots is becoming a popular alternative to traditional house plants. Because it's said bamboo is lucky, the practice of having potted bamboo grew in popularity as the interior decorating method of Feng Shui became well known. Bamboo is easy to grow and to care for, making it a good choice for those with little time to spend on the greenery inside their homes. Mix one part potting soil with one part peat moss. The peat moss is essential, as bamboo needs loose soil to grow in.

Fill the pot's, or other planting vessel's, container two-thirds full with the soil and peat moss combination. Do not pack the soil down.

Plant the rhizome two inches beneath the soil surface and cover with loose soil. Set in a sunny location.

Water the bamboo when the soil feels dry to the touch. The plant will begin growing within three to six weeks.

Tips & Warnings
Use a container with plenty of drainage holes.
Avoid over watering, rhizome rot is the main reason for bamboo not growing. Re-pot the bamboo as it grows to keep it from becoming root bound.
