A very simple alcoholic wine can be made from frozen grape juice concentrate. While the wine will not win any awards and be snubbed by wine connoisseurs, grape juice concentrate wine is an easy way to make a light wine at home. Grape juice concentrate is very inexpensive and can be purchased at any grocery store.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 5 gallon jug or carboy
  • Funnel
  • 4 cans grape juice concentrate, thawed
  • 4 pounds sugar
  • Stockpot
  • Wine yeast
  • Airlock
  • Rubber stopper
  1. Step 1

Clean the jug or carboy with hot water.

  2. Step 2

Pour the four cans of grape juice concentrate into the carboy using a funnel.

  3. Step 3

Pour in enough water to make 3 1/2 gallons of grape juice/water mixture.

  4. Step 4

Measure 1/2 gallon of water into a large stockpot. Heat over low heat and add the 4 pounds of sugar. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Pour this into the carboy.

  5. Step 5

Measure 3 tablespoons of sugar into a small bowl. Add 1 package of wine yeast. Add 1/4 cup hot water.

  6. Step 6

Pour the yeast mixture into the carboy after the mixture has become bubbly. This should take less than 10 minutes.

  7. Step 7

Secure the airlock and rubber stopper on the carboy. Set the carboy in a spot where it will not be disturbed and the temperature doesn't have a lot of fluctuation.

  8. Step 8

Allow the wine mixture to ferment for approximately one month. When the airlock no longer bubbles when the jug or carboy is tapped, the wine is done.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use food-grade tubing to siphon the wine from the jug into bottles or jars. Be careful not to siphon the must from the bottom of the carboy, as this will cause the wine to cloud. The must is the sediment that collects at the bottom of the container. You can use white or purple grape juice concentrate for this wine. For sweeter wine, add more sugar. For a dryer wine, add up to 1/4 pound less sugar.
  • The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) has a limit on how much beer or wine a person or household is allowed to make in a year. Currently, the amount is 100 gallons per adult or 200 gallons per household.
