Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Create finger puppets with your children. They can be made out of paper, felt or even the individual cups of an egg carton. See the Resources section below for more ideas on making finger puppets and finding free finger puppet designs.

  2. Step 2

Put the puppets on the ends of your fingers. Hide behind some scenery--e.g. a small stage with an opening in the middle--and hold up just enough of your hand for the finger puppet to be seen in the opening. Your puppets will "talk," "sing," "dance" or interact with the audience when you talk and wiggle your fingers.

  3. Step 3

Put on a play with your kids. Write a small skit and act it out with your children using your finger puppets--or have your kids put on a play for you.

  4. Step 4

Buy themed finger-puppet sets to create specific stories. These are great for performing shows at your local library or elementary school. Or you can visit sick children in hospitals and put on a show for them.

  5. Step 5

Build or buy a stage and lots of different puppets for a day care center. Leave the stage out so children can put on their own plays during free time.

  6. Step 6

Use finger puppets to teach children about sharing or making friends. Simple stories teach children valuable lessons. You can also teach them math and reading using finger puppets.

  7. Step 7

Take finger puppets to a small child's birthday party and entertain the crowd or let the partygoers put on a show all their own.
