      Download and install the Tune4Win M4P Converter. Go to the CNET Download Center (see Resources) to download and install the program. Tune4Win M4P Converter is for Windows; the Mac version is called Tune4Mac M4P Converter and works the same. A trial is free to download, but you will have to pay to keep the program. The price in 2009 was $34.95.

      Set up the virtual CD-RW. When you launch the Tune4Win M4P Converter you will be prompted to set up a virtual CD-RW burner on your computer with your media player program. Open your preferred media player program and select "Tune4Win Virtual CD-RW" as the CD burner.

      Select the audio output type. Go back to Tune4Win M4P Converter and click the "Settings" button. Select your audio file type from MP3, WMA and WAV. On the same screen the output folder for the new audio files can be selected. Click "OK" when you are done.

      Select your M4P files to convert. Go back to your media player program to select the M4P files that you want to convert. Create a new playlist of the files or just drag and drop a current playlist that you want to convert to the screen of your media player program.

      Convert your files. In the media player program, you will want to burn your playlist to disc using the virtual Tune4Win drive as your disc to burn to. The progress of the conversion will show up in the Tune4Win screen as the files convert. Look in the "Status" column to see the progress.
