How to Fix Ash-Based Color-Treated Hair
It is very frustrating to have a color mishap. Even though wearing hats all the time is a signature fashion statement for some people, it is not the way to go just to cover up a bad dye job. Using ash-based dyes almost always turns out wrong. That is because ash-based colors don't work well on non-ash colored hair. If you have tried to dye your hair with an ash-based color, you were probably left with green or greenish-yellow hair. Don't worry; there are fixes you can do to get a good hair color again, without having to cut off all of your hair and starting over. It won't be easy, and you will probably have to make several attempts, but all isn't lost. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Get details about the dye you used in order to fix the problem. If the color was a semi-permanent color with a vegetable base, you can use a color remover to strip some of the bad color. However, if it is not vegetable based, a color remover will cause even more damage to the hair.
-
2
Buy another temporary hair color. These types of hair rinses are less damaging than permanent color. It would be dangerous for you to put in another permanent dye on top of the bad one; the harsh chemicals in permanent color are damaging to the hair. Dying the hair twice in the same day with permanent color will cause excessive dryness and breakage. You can even cause the scalp to burn and experience balding spots if you are not careful.
Ash colors need to be neutralized with a dark or red color, so choose a black, dark brown or burgundy color to cover the ash blonde. -

3
Protect your hands, clothing and surroundings. Before applying the hair color, protect the area from color stains. Use latex gloves, wear an old shirt and put a towel over the bathroom sink (if you are applying it there). Even if these hair rinses are temporary hair color, the stains can last forever on your clothing or environment.

4
Part the hair into four sections; two in the front and two in the back. Hold the sections in place with a hair duckbill clip.
-
5
Apply the color to one section at a time. Start with any section, and squeeze the color onto the roots of the hair. Work the dye through to the ends with your fingers. Make sure the hair is saturated from roots to tips.
-
6
After applying color to all of the sections, let it set for 25 to 30 minutes. You can place a plastic cap on your head to make sure that the color fully takes.
-
7
Rinse out color completely. Use lukewarm water. Keep your head under the running water until the water is completely clear.
-
8
Add a conditioner. Use your favorite conditioner all over your hair. This is important because the two dye jobs may have left your hair brittle and dry. You need to add moisture to it to combat any shedding and breakage. Let the conditioner stay on for about 5 to 10 minutes, and then rinse out. Style your hair as usual.
