Although you can use dial-up, it is not recommended due to the slow connection and data transfer speed. Broadband Internet service is better in this instance.

If the computer does not have a built-in microphone, buy an external microphone and connect it to the "Audio In" jack on.

Download a telephony software program, such as Icall, Skype or Yahoo Voice (see Resources).

Open the telephony software program, and dial the number you want to call. Be sure to check first with your telephone carrier to see if any charges will be assessed for the call.
