Things You'll Need:
- Camping stove
- Propane tank
- Plastic box
- Appropriate packing materials
-
Step 1
Detach the propane bottle from the camping stove, even if it is basically empty. You always want to pack the stove and the propane separately just in case something happens to spark the stove. Make sure the stove is in the off position as well, for safety's sake.
-
Step 2
Open your camping stove and take a look at it. Check to see that you have the plastic tubing that connects to the tanks coiled up in the bottom of the stove and that it's securely packed so it doesn't move. If you don't, the tubing could bump against the rest of the stove's components, which could lead to being punctured. Then close the stove and latch it.
-
Step 3
Place the stove in the bottom of a plastic box or directly on the floor of your car. You want it to lie completely flat, not diagonally or on its side. This way it is not as likely to be banged around. Now put the other gear in the car. Sit soft materials, such as sleeping bags and pillows, next to the stove or the bin containing the stove. Fill extra room in the box with soft materials as well.
-
Step 4
Put your bottle of propane at the top of the plastic box containing the stove, or if you didn't use a plastic box, get a plastic box just for it. Pack the tank or the bin in between a few articles of clothing. Do not put any food near it.
-
Step 5
Do a test run by shifting a few larger items in your trunk. Make sure neither the stove nor the propane bottle gets overly jostled. If it looks like you are putting them at risk, take everything out of the trunk and repack.
