How to Get Rid of the SimSun Font
The SimSun font is simplified Chinese language font presented in the sans serif format. If you have no need to view Chinese characters in your Word documents or websites in your web browser, you can completely remove the SimSun font to save space on your hard drive. Getting rid of the SimSun font is a simple matter of locating where the font file is saved and then removing it by using your operating system's normal delete tool.

Save your progress on any Word documents or text editing programs you currently have open. Close down the programs entirely as well as any other software programs that may be displaying text, such as a web browser.

The Search Box
Open up your computer's Start menu by clicking on the Windows icon located at the lower-left end of the desktop. Click the "Run" button if you already have it in your Start menu. Click inside the Search box if the "Run" icon is not listed and type in "Run." Double-click the "Run" icon when it appears in the list of search results.

The "Run" Window
Click anywhere inside the text box at the center of the "Run" window. Type in the phrase "%windir%\fonts" and then click "OK" to bring up a window containing all the font files installed on your computer.

Scroll down through the list of fonts and find the one labeled as "SimSun." Right-click the entry and choose "Delete" from the pop-up menu that will appear to the right. Close down the fonts window and double-click the "Recycle Bin" on the desktop. Click "File" and choose "Empty Recycle Bin" from the drop-down menu. Open "Start" and then choose "Shut Down." Click "Restart" to finish removing the SimSun font from your computer's hard drive.

Tips & Warnings
Depending on which specific operating system you are running, the fonts folder may be located in a different place. Typing in "%windir%\fonts" in the "Run" window circumvents the need to know where the folder is located by opening whatever folder is specified as the "fonts" folder automatically. The command works equally well no matter which version of the Windows operating system you are running on your PC.
