How to Remove Water in the Basement

Water can accumulate in the basement level of a house for many different reasons. Often, people are at a loss as to how to remove it. Water can accumulate from bad drainage systems near your house or from broken gutters or holes and openings in your walls. Removing the water is not always practical with a mop, and often the water is too much to remove with towels as well. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Designate the areas in your basement that accumulate water and try to plug the holes with caulk, towels and other objects. Surround the wet areas with towels or cheap blankets so that the water will not travel across your basement to furniture or electronics.

    • 2

Use a large broom or mop to direct water toward drains, if there are any in your basement.

    • 3

Vacuum the remainder of the water with a heavy-duty vacuum cleaner. The vacuum should be able to remove the water for your basement completely. It can be emptied into sinks or toilets when full. Use a mop or towel to remove whatever water is left, but it is not likely to be much.
