With so many people shopping online now it can be valuable for men to learn how to measure their body so they can know what size clothes to buy. There are different areas of the body that need to be measured for different articles of clothing. The neck, chest and arm are necessary for shirts or jackets, the waist size and inseam are needed for pants and the head and hand measurements are useful for accessories such as hats or gloves.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Put the measuring tape at the base of the neck and wrap the measuring tape around the neck until it meets that point again and that will be the neck size.

  2. Step 2

Hold the end of the measuring tape at the very end of the right shoulder and then stretch the measuring tape out across the front of the chest. Mark on your measuring tape where the left shoulder ends and this is your chest size.

  3. Step 3

Place the end of the measuring tape on either shoulder blade. With the person's arm straight out to the side stretch the measuring tape to the wrist. This will be the arm size.

  4. Step 4

Place the end of the measuring tape at the hip at about the height that your pants will be when they are pulled all the way up. Wrap the measuring tape around the waist until it meets back to the original spot and that is the waist size.

  5. Step 5

Place the end of the measuring tape inside the leg right beneath the groin and stretch the measuring tape down the leg all the way to where you want your pant leg to end. This will be the inseam.

  6. Step 6

Place the end of the measuring tape about the left side of the temple and then wrap the measuring tape around the head and back to the original point for a head size.

  7. Step 7

Place the end of the measuring tape on either side of your hand where the knuckles are and wrap the measuring tape around your hand (don't wrap around the thumb) for a hand size.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep in mind that however tight you make the measuring tape around your neck (or whatever you are measuring) that is how tight the shirt will be. If you wrap the measuring tape around your neck and it isn't comfortable then loosen the measuring tape a little bit.
