    Determine your price range. Typically hand-helds such as Nintendo Gameboy and the Sony PSP run around $100 with games being $30. Microsoft's consoles tend to run around $200+ and Nintendo around $150. Playstation has been more expensive with $250+. Decent gaming computers will run about $1,000+.

    First you will need to educate yourself on the competing companies. In short Nintendo targets a broad audience and creates games that are very child friendly. Microsoft targets slightly hardcore gamers and games are usually more mature but it spans all genres. Playstation also targets slightly more hardcore gamers and its games are similar to that of Microsoft. Your fourth option is the computer, games of all genres are created for the computer however the target is hardcore gamers and medium to high end computers.

    Handhelds offer portability and convienience while the cost is slightly less.
    Consoles offer a wider range of games but the price is higher.
