Private Messages or Notes.

Do you want to leave a note to a family member or friend that isn't home, but it's private and you don't want to leave it on the available Note Pad that's on the door? Well, this is what I'm going to do for my visitor's so they can feel safe to leave me a private note if they want.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A note pad on or next to your door.
  • A pen or pencil.
  • Wood, plastic or metal scraps. Maybe all three.
  • A padlock.
  • Your imagination.
  1. Step 1
The message box can be anything you choose.
The message box can be anything you choose.

Purchase, or better yet, build a little box. It can be whatever you want it to be, (this is where your imagination comes in handy) a square little box, a little bird house, A miniature mail box (with a working mail flag), or maybe a little box that resembles a planter.

  2. Step 2
Make a small hole or a slit, just big enough for the messages to fit itno.

Make your box all enclosed, except for a lid that you can open to retrieve your messages, and a very small opening (a slit or round hole) that your visitors can slip their message into.

  3. Step 3
    Hardward for the padlock.

Attach hardware for the padlock onto the box and lid that you made to retrieve your messages from. Remember to keep the box locked when you're away from home.

  4. Step 4
    Decorate your private messag box.

Decorate your box, maybe even write on it, Your Private Messages are Safe with Me, Leave A Message, or What's on Your Mind? (This is another step that your imagination comes in handy).

  5. Step 5
Attach your finished message box to something that won't just get up and walk away.

Now, attach your finished message box where all can see it. Next to your doorbell, attach it to a little table you might have next to your door, or maybe on or next to your regular mail box. My message box is going to be a little treasure box, attached to a small table that I have next to my door.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that the material you use to build your message box with will stand up to ALL types of weather.
  • Make sure that you are the only one that can retrieve your messages.
  • If you don't want solicitors leaving notes or business cards you should write on your message box( NO SOLISITORS).
  • If your making a bird house shaped box make sure that if you put a hole instead of a slit, you make the hole small enough so that a bird can't get into it, otherwise your messages will be shredded for a bird nest before you can read your them.
