Research Ebay items
Research Ebay items

Ebay selling is a tricky market. There are way too many sellers for everyone to do good business, so only the cream of the crop stick out from the pack. One of the main ways to stand out is to offer a product that is in high demand for a decent price. First you have to know what is in demand. Then you have to know how to price the item. This article takes you through the steps you need to take to research what to sell on Ebay.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Internet access
  • Paper
  • Pen
  • Ebay account
  1. Step 1

Sign in to your Ebay account. You aren't allowed to check for completed listings until you have an account. Once in, they let you see how previous auctions have ended.

  2. Step 2

Click on "Advanced Search" on the right hand side of the search box. It takes you to a new page. Here you can type in the type of items you are looking for. For example, "Girls jeans", "Baby toy", or anything else you can think of.

  3. Step 3

Scroll down before you hit search and click on the box next to the "Completed Listings" category. You only want to see auctions on Ebay that have ended. At this point, you shouldn't care what current active listings are doing.

  4. Step 4

Scroll down the list looking for anything that has an ending auction price in the color green. Anything red hasn't sold, green has. Write down all the name brands or items in green for at least 2 pages of completed Ebay listings.

  5. Step 5

Go back to the Advanced search page and work your way down your list. Start with the first item or name brand and type it into the search field, making sure to check completed listings only. If the sell through rate is high and the prices are high enough for you, keep it on your list. If not, cross it off and move to the next brand.

Tips & Warnings
  • It's a good idea to do this at least every couple of months. Trends change on Ebay. You don't want to buy a bunch of merchandise to have it sit unsold for months.
