Large, flat-screen televisions are all the rage these days. If you've ever been into an electronics store, you have likely been overwhelmed by the different options. Many also offer newly released features that seem impressive, expensive or both. All TVs are not created equal, so it's important to know what you want out of your TV before buying. By considering how you will use the unit, where you will put it, and what you want to spend on it, you can make the best choice when standing in the store.
Determine what you want to mainly use the TV for. Casual TV-watchers may benefit from a less expensive TV set give slightly lower-quality images than the latest hot new set. But if you watch a lot of movies or constantly play video games using a big screen, you will appreciate a high contrast ratio. A TV with a fast response time, or the amount of time it takes a liquid crystal display screen to change pixel values, will keep your images clean and unblurred. If these features are not listed with the TV display at the store, check with a store employee.

Buy the right size of TV for the space that it will be in. If you have a small apartment, you may not need or want a 52-inch screen. But if you are buying a new TV for your great room, a small unit will look out of place. By considering the size of the room in which you will put the TV, you can strike a good balance between the size that's right for your space and the price that's right for your wallet.
3
Consider your price options. Generally, the larger the television, the more expensive it is. If you want a giant 65-inch LCD TV to watch the Super Bowl on, you can expect to drop a large chunk of money for it.
4
Avoid buying features in advance. The salesperson at your local electronics store may try to sell you on a TV with new features. Some, such as three-dimensional imaging, come at a hefty price, but you may not have the other technology needed to use them any time soon. Televisions are like other electronics; wait a few months for the newest thing, and it will drop in price steeply. Don't buy it now unless you cannot live without it.
