Have you always loved the sleek and smooth look of a liquid eye liner, but lacked the steady hand and patience?
I'll give you a few of my tips and tricks and soon you will be a liquid liner master!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • a good quality liquid liner (I recommend a brush tip, felt tips are actually much harder to get a fine line with and can often look jagged.)
  • q-tips (an easy way to fix small mistakes)
  • painter' s tape (or invisible tape is fine as well)
  1. Step 1

Relax, don't panic. Just take a deep breath and say, if they can do it, I can do it too!
First thing you want to do is if you are afraid that you will not be able to follow the base of your lash line, just cut a small strip of painter's tape that extends from each corner of your eye.
(If you think you can do it with out painter's tape... skip to step two.)
Place the tape just above your lash line, creating the thickness of the line you would like to make.

  2. Step 2

Now, to steady your hand just place your elbow on the mirror directly in front of you creating a stable surface. (or if you prefer rest your elbow on the sink or counter top.) The closer you can get to the mirror and be able to pay as close attention to detail as possible, the better.

  3. Step 3

Now rest your pinky finger on your cheek, snug against your nose and follow the base of your lash line without using the liquid liner, just to get a feel for the path you are about to take.

  4. Step 4

Now, pick up your liner with confidence. (You can do this!)
rest your pinky as you did before on your cheek flush against your nose, making sure your elbow is still stabilized.
If you need to, use your other hand and get a good stretch on your lid (like you did when you were a kid pretending to be Chinese, no offense)
Just using the very tip of your brush... DO NOT PRESS DOWN!!!
follow a thin line against your lash line. (you can build your line up if you wish it to be thicker.
No need to rush, take your time and follow the line in small segments, match those segments up as closely as possible to develop a smooth even line.
If you uses the tape... follow the line up to the edge of the tape. Remember not to push down on the brush, using the very tip just follow the edge.

  5. Step 5

Make sure you let the liquid dry for about 30 sec on your eyes before you blink or open your eyes too wide.
Then if you used the tape... stretch your eyelid (again, like you did when you were a kid pretending to be Chinese)and GENTLY (I do mean gently) peel off the tape.

  6. Step 6

If the line looks jagged or uneven at all, just go back with your liner and do small touch ups... remember not to press down.

    Beautiful!

Tips & Warnings
  • DO NOT PRESS DOWN TOO HARD!!! they say to press down more for a bolder line.. but I have ALWAYS found it easier to just build up my lines.
