Lose Weight by Counting Calories

It's not difficult to lose weight slowly, if you lose it by gradually reducing your daily calorie intake. Learn how counting calories can help you lose weight.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pencil
  • Paper
  • Scale
  • Calorie Guidebook
  1. Step 1

To begin calculate your daily calorie requirements for your body weight. A good rule of thumb is that you need about 15 calories per day for each pound of weight. So if you weigh 150 pounds, then you will need approximately 2250 calories per day to maintain your weight. This is an average calorie requirement and may not apply universally to everyone.

  2. Step 2

Next, decide on a healthy level of calorie intake for yourself. Don't go overboard and try to live on 1200 calories per day. Just set a goal of taking in 200 to 300 calories a day less than your calculated body requirements.

  3. Step 3

Finally, monitor your calorie intake by measuring portion sizes and recording the calories in the foods you eat and drink. Stick to your goal and you will slowly begin to lose weight in a natural and healthy way. A good calorie guidebook, listing the amount of calories in each food, helps you keep track.
