Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fluid removal tool
  • Plastic container for disposing of old fluid
  • Fresh power steering fluid

    Removal

  1. Step 1

Remove the filler cap from the steering-fluid reservoir, which should be clearly labeled on the cap.

  2. Step 2

Siphon out the old fluid using a fluid removal tool, which resembles a large syringe, and is available at auto parts stores.

  3. Step 3

Dispose of the old fluid safely, and in accordance with laws for hazardous materials. Don't pour the fluid on the ground or into a trashcan. Instead, use an old plastic milk jug.

  4. Step 4

Refill the power steering fluid reservoir with fresh fluid to the recommended level on the dipstick attached to the cap.

  5. Step 5

Test the vehicle's power steering while running the engine, and turning the wheel left and right, while the vehicle is parked. If the wheel turns freely, with no noise, the fluid level is correct.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not attempt to operate the vehicle if the power steering fluid reservoir is empty.
